Lenira Ivani Monteiro was born in the island of Santiago Cabo Verde and immigrated to the United States in 2012 at 16 years of age. Lenira graduated from Central Falls High School in 2014. She is currently a student at Rhode Island College (RIC) where she majors in psychology.
Lenira was an outstanding student in high school. Among other things, she was the president of Cape Verdean Student Association and a member of the Extended Learning Opportunities advisory board. She consistently received high honor awards, was selected by the teachers as student of the month in December 2013, and received the principal's award at the graduation.
Upon graduating from RIC, Lenira intends to pursue an advance degree.
